It hasn’t been that long ago I posted all proud of myself for maintaining my weight loss, staying at 145 pounds 3 years after my gastric bypass surgery.
Well — be careful what you brag about, right? Of course I didnt’ mean it as a brag, my hope is always that whatever I say here will help someone else on this crazy path.
Nonetheless, after that post life intervened. Lot of work, lot of busyness. And not so great eating habits. I reached “emergency weight” for the first time, and things worked as they should. I went into gear and got back to 145 over the course of a week or so. But life hasn’t slowed down.
I hit 150 again maybe 2-3 weeks ago now. I meant to declare the emergency. But I’ve been really busy and focused on other stuff. So I put it on my to-do list. I bounced between 150 and 152 till today.
Today my scale said 155. NOW it’s an emergency. I ain’t playing any more.
So TODAY, not tomorrow, not next week… Today I have started the 5 Day Pouch Test.
If you haven’t heard of it, the 5 Day Pouch Test was created for just this situation. I’ve gotten out of control, I’ve lapsed into bad habits. Too much eating late at night, too many carbs. The Pouch Test takes you back to your immediate post-op eating habits, jerks you out of your complacency and helps you get back in control of your eating habits.
Days 1-2 are low carb protein shakes, broth, clear or cream soups, sugar free gelatin or pudding.
This morning I had my normal cups of coffee because, well.. I just ain’t giving that up regardless. I had a protein “shot” before church (it was a big morning, the drama team I direct was performing).. had water through the services. When I came home I had a protein shake and some cream of chicken soup. I’m supposed to have 64 oz of water and I’m working on it.
I’ll try and post every day as I do this – and let you know if it works. I’ve never tried this before. So far so good tho.. I don’t feel much different than normal.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
